Development of Pulsed Magnetic Therapy and Its Use in Clinical Plastic Surgery

The initial development of pulsed magnetic therapy and its use in clinical plastic surgery has been blocked in the past century by the lack of scientifically derived and evidence-based knowledge of mechanisms of action. That is why physicians led by doctor Strauch (2009) have decided to put together a list of verified scientific breakthroughs in the field of pulsed magnetic therapy and summarize the principles of its action so as to provide others with solid foundations for optimal use in practice.

Available biological and clinical studies reviewing the mechanisms of therapy were thus completely evaluated and with the help of case illustrations, a comprehensive interpretation of the clinical use of the pulsed magnetic field in plastic surgery was eventually put together.

Pulsed magnetic therapy successfully mastered post-operative pain and swelling as well as chronic wound healing and overall facilitated vasodilation and angiogenesis – in other words enlargement of the existing and formation of new blood vessels. The authors, on the basis of these results and with the support of scientific evidence, were therefore able to precisely describe the associated mechanisms of action of pulsed magnetic fields.

Both plastic surgeons and patients can now, without hesitation, rely on a proven and effective tool for complementary, non-invasive, non-pharmacological management of post-operative pain and swelling in the form of pulsed magnetic therapy, which in addition does not show any undesirable side effects.
