Making Treatment of Frozen Shoulder Syndrome More Effective
Making treatment of painful frozen shoulder syndrome more effective by including pulsed magnetic therapy was performed in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (Galace de Freitas et al., 2014) with 56 patients already undergoing conventional rehabilitation exercises.
The effects of treatment in patients who underwent three-week pulsed magnetic therapy were evaluated in comparison to the control group that was not treated with pulsed magnetic fields. The study concentrated on pain relief, function improvement and muscle strengthening. Both groups underwent rehabilitation exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles and the results were collected for the next three months.
Throughout the 3 month period, patients who were additionally treated with pulsed magnetic therapy showed better functioning of muscles and stronger pain relief. On the other hand, muscles strengthened in both groups to a similar extent.
The results of this study therefore confirm that pulsed magnetic fields enhance the positive effects of rehabilitation exercises, provide additional pain relief and improve functionality of shoulders.
Pulsed magnetic therapy thus significantly contributes to the rehabilitation of patients suffering from frozen shoulder syndrome.
